Frank Davis is dead

The English blogger and virtual host of the Smokydrinkybar Frank Davis has unexpectedly passed away. Frank has been tirelessly filling his blog with new information, assessments and opinions since 2009, most recently a few days before his passing. The reason for Frank’s journalistic activities was the statutory smoking ban in Great Britain, which is of course embedded in tobacco control in general and linked to other elements of the health dictatorship. The tobacco company Philip Morris International (PMI) has long been ingratiating itself to the anti-smokers. Meanwhile, it is counting on its new IQOS heaters to profit from the increasing fight against classic tobacco products with their “Heet” sticks. Prof. Dr. Günter Ropohl (1939-2017) was a Professor Emeritus of General Technology at the University of Frankfurt on Main, Germany. He was an active member of Netzwerk Rauchen. Tomorrow would have been his 80th birthday. We honor his commitment against discrimation of smokers and the passive smoking fraud by publishing a text of his from the past decade. Morgen wäre Prof. Günter Ropohl 80 Jahre geworden. Der 2017 verstorbene Technikphilosoph hatte einen Lehrstuhl an der Universität Frankfurt/Main inne und war Mitglied des Netzwerk Rauchen. Wir halten seinen Einsatz gegen Raucherdiskrimierung und gegen den Passivrauchbetrug in Ehren. Zu seinem Gedenken folgt hier ein Text von Günter Ropohl aus dem vergangenen Jahrzehnt. 20 Millionen Deutsche werden entrechtet, europaweit sogar mehr als 100 Millionen. Man verwehrt diesen Menschen das Recht, in öffentlichen Räumen, Gaststätten und Verkehrsmitteln Tabak zu geniessen. Vaping vs Smoking?

The “electronic cigarette” has quite a history not many people know about. It was invented in the 1920s and proved to be a commercial dead end until the year 2000. “E-cigarettes” were introduced to European and American markets in 2006/07, after the decades of anti-smoking measures and anti-tobacco rhetoric had borne fruit. With high tobacco taxes and increased denormalization of smoking, vaping became an object of commercial value. Dampfen versus Rauchen?

Die „elektronische Zigarette” hat – wie nur wenigen bekannt – durchaus schon eine längere Geschichte. Sie wurde in den 1920er Jahren erfunden, erwies sich aber bis zum Jahr 2000 als kommerzielle Sackgasse. Auf dem europäischen und amerikanischen Markt wurden „E-Zigaretten” 2006/07 eingeführt, nachdem Jahrzehnte der Anti-Rauch-Maßnahmen und Anti-Tabak-Rhetorik Früchte getragen hatten. Angesichts hoher Tabaksteuern und einer zunehmenden Denormalisierung des Rauchens entwickelte sich das Dampfen zu einem Wirtschaftsfaktor. Joe Jackson, der seit über 40 Jahren weltweit erfolgreiche Musiker mit mehr als einem Dutzend Studioalben und Hits wie „Steppin’ Out“ oder „Is she really going out with him“, ist in unserer Bewegung auch als kritischer Geist bekannt. Er hat neben seinem künstlerischen Wirken immer wieder Tabakprohibition und Gesundheitswahn in Interviews und Artikeln gegeißelt. We start the column with the „Brussels Declaration on Scientific Integrity“, that was published in December 2009. It was initiated by the International Coalition Against Prohibition (TICAP), a federation of various organizations (including Netzwerk Rauchen among its German participants), which was very active at that time. In unserer Rubrik „Throwback Thursday“ wollen wir in unregelmäßiger Folge ein Schlaglicht auf Geschehnisse werfen, die mit unserer Bewegung in Zusammenhang stehen. Wir beginnen mit der „Brüsseler Erklärung zur wissenschaftlichen Integrität“, die im Dezember 2009 veröffentlicht wurde. Träger der Erklärung ist die Internationale Koalition gegen Prohibition (TICAP), ein damals sehr aktiver Zusammenschluss verschiedener Organisationen, darunter von deutscher Seite auch Netzwerk Rauchen.
