Versprechen sollte man halten. Ich hatte versprochen, einige der Ideen, die ich in meinem letzten Beitrag kurz erwähnt hatte, näher zu erläutern. Wir erinnern uns: Ich hatte Vorschläge gemacht, was wir tun könnten und tun sollten, um die Tabakkontrolle tatsächlich zu zerschlagen, statt nur untereinander darüber zu diskutieren. Sie werden jetzt sagen, dass wir nur schwach und wenige sind. Meine Antwort darauf ist: Nein, das sind wir nicht. Among the indispensable attributes in caricatures of the ruthless capitalist was – next to top hat and pinstripe suit – always a cigar. Although the greedy bloodsuckers and their political accomplices in reality no longer resemble this, you can still find this type in current cartoons, for example, here and here. A fact that is conveniently brushed under the table is that even inconsiderate communists relished the cigar. Who does not immediately think of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara? Zu den unverzichtbaren Attributen in Karikaturen des rücksichtslosen Kapitalisten gehörte neben Zylinder und (Nadelstreifen)Anzug stets die Zigarre. So sehen die gierigen Blutsauger und deren politische Erfüllungsgehilfen in der Realität zwar schon länger nicht mehr aus, dennoch findet man auch in aktuellen Cartoons noch diesen Typus, zum Beispiel hier und hier. Gerne fällt dabei unter den Tisch, dass auch rücksichtslosen Kommunisten die Zigarre mundete. Wer denkt nicht an Fidel Castro und Che Guevara? Just talking is not enough anymore

Very few people have heard of an international smoker’s conference in Moscow way back in autumn of 2014. Maybe it’s because its results were weak, even though representation was strong. Represented were 21 international organizations, defending smoker’s rights, mostly from Europe. Absent were the Brits (they could not get their visas in time) and Americans. Present were several South Americans and one very vocal Indonesian. The Russian Movement for Smoker’s Rights was the host; the hotel was Kempinski, the ambiance perfect. Nur reden reicht nicht mehr

Nur wenigen ist die internationale Raucherkonferenz in Moskau bekannt, die im Herbst 2014 stattfand.  Vielleicht liegt das daran, dass sie wenig Ergebnisse vorweisen konnte, obwohl sie stark besucht war. Vertreten waren 21 internationale Organisationen, hauptsächlich aus Europa, die die Rechte von Rauchern verteidigten. Es fehlten die Briten (sie haben ihre Visa nicht rechtzeitig erteilt bekommen) und die Amerikaner. Anwesend waren mehrere Südamerikaner und ein sehr lautstarker Indonesier. Als Gastgeber fungierte die russische Bewegung für Raucherrechte, die Konferenz fand im Hotel Kempinski statt, das Ambiente war perfekt.
