Meanwhile, it is counting on its new IQOS heaters to profit from the increasing fight against classic tobacco products with their “Heet” sticks. Prof. Dr. Günter Ropohl (1939-2017) was a Professor Emeritus of General Technology at the University of Frankfurt on Main, Germany. He was an active member of Netzwerk Rauchen. Tomorrow would have been his 80th birthday. We honor his commitment against discrimation of smokers and the passive smoking fraud by publishing a text of his from the past decade. Morgen wäre Prof. Günter Ropohl 80 Jahre geworden. Der 2017 verstorbene Technikphilosoph hatte einen Lehrstuhl an der Universität Frankfurt/Main inne und war Mitglied des Netzwerk Rauchen. Wir halten seinen Einsatz gegen Raucherdiskrimierung und gegen den Passivrauchbetrug in Ehren. Zu seinem Gedenken folgt hier ein Text von Günter Ropohl aus dem vergangenen Jahrzehnt. 20 Millionen Deutsche werden entrechtet, europaweit sogar mehr als 100 Millionen. Man verwehrt diesen Menschen das Recht, in öffentlichen Räumen, Gaststätten und Verkehrsmitteln Tabak zu geniessen. Gian Turci – 10. Todestag

Am 10. März 2009 schied ein großer Kopf der Antiprohibitionsbewegung dahin. Der Italiener Gian Turci starb im Alter von 58 Jahren nach kurzer, schwerer Krankheit. Er war zuletzt Vorstandsmitglied der Internationalen Koalition gegen Prohibition (TICAP), Vorsitzender von FORCES Italien, Internationaler Koordinator von Freedom2Choose (UK) und CEO von FORCES International. Mitmachen zur Zukunft der Tabaksteuer

Bei Gesetzgebungsverfahren werden oft diverse Lobbygruppen und Betroffene angehört, schriftlich oder mündlich, von der Regierung und/oder vom Parlament. Auf EU-Ebene gibt es ebenfalls solche „Konsultationen“, auch bei der Tabakbekämpfungspolitik. Aktuell kann man, ob Unternehmen, Interessenverband oder Einzelperson, zu geplanten Änderungen bei der Tabakbesteuerung Stellung nehmen. Sogar auf Deutsch, das war in der Vergangenheit nicht immer so. Noch bis zum 3. September. Denn die deutsche Tabaksteuer wird nicht nur in Berlin gemacht, sondern es existiert ein EU-Rahmen zur Höhe und Gestaltung. Legislative procedures often involve the consultation of various lobbying groups and people concerned, either in writing or verbally, by the Government and/or the Parliament. There are also such “consultations” at EU level, also regarding tobacco control policies.  At present, corporations, interest groups and individuals may have their say about the proposed changes in tobacco taxation. Versions are available in all various languages. This opportunity remains until the 3rd of September 2018. Among the indispensable attributes in caricatures of the ruthless capitalist was – next to top hat and pinstripe suit – always a cigar. Although the greedy bloodsuckers and their political accomplices in reality no longer resemble this, you can still find this type in current cartoons, for example, here and here. Zu den unverzichtbaren Attributen in Karikaturen des rücksichtslosen Kapitalisten gehörte neben Zylinder und (Nadelstreifen)Anzug stets die Zigarre. So sehen die gierigen Blutsauger und deren politische Erfüllungsgehilfen in der Realität zwar schon länger nicht mehr aus, dennoch findet man auch in aktuellen Cartoons noch diesen Typus, zum Beispiel hier und hier. Gerne fällt dabei unter den Tisch, dass auch rücksichtslosen Kommunisten die Zigarre mundete. Wer denkt nicht an Fidel Castro und Che Guevara? Der wichtigste Raucherprozess seit Friedhelm Adolfs oder vielleicht sogar überhaupt

Mehrere Jahre lang hat der inzwischen verstorbene Friedhelm Adolfs, Deutschlands bekanntester Raucher nach Helmut Schmidt, vor Gericht um den Verbleib in seiner Wohnung kämpfen müssen. Nachdem schließlich auch der Bundesgerichtshof die Urteile der Vorinstanzen kritisch durchleuchtet hatte und Substantielles daran zu bemängeln fand, wurde das Verfahren neu aufgerollt. Da nun endlich anstelle reiner Behauptungen der Vermieterseite Beweise geprüft und dem Urteil zugrunde gelegt werden mussten, gab es für Adolfs ein Happy End. German communist philosopher Karl Marx (1818-1883) would have turned 200 earlier this month. More than a decade ago, Marx was posthumously ‘diagnosed’ with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a skin disease consisting of “’furuncles, boils and carbuncles’”. Historical research by British dermatologist Sam Shuster revealed that Marx complained about them developing on his “posterior and near the penis”. Well, let’s not dig too deep into the hypothesis that this illness may have influenced Marx’s scholarly works and political thinking.
